Get-to-Know the HOPE Bilingual Program

What is a Bilingual Program?

Mission Statement:
Our mission is to preserve, teach, and celebrate students’ language and culture to foster academic growth, cultural pride, and effective communication for school and beyond.

Vision Statement:
Our vision is for every HOPE student to achieve bilingual fluency and cultural competence, prepare for post-secondary success through rigorous language and culture education, and become leaders who inspire positive change in their communities.

A bilingual program focuses on instruction in two languages. In the HOPE Bilingual Program, the Hmong language and culture is embraced as the central focus of instruction while including the Karen language and culture.

Currently, our K-8 students receive instruction in two sets of languages which include Hmong/English or Karen/English. The objective is for students to be proficient in one set of languages while learning about the target culture.

The Goal:

Students will meet the ACTFL Language Development benchmarks identified for their grade/proficiency level.
