Hmong Language and Culture Coordinator
This position will be for the 2024/2025 School Year
HOPE Community Academy is an accredited, public co-educational charter school comprised of primary,
intermediate, and middle school levels. The entire school community seeks to provide a safe and trusting

This Hmong Language and Culture Coordinator role at HOPE Community Academy offers a unique opportunity
to make a meaningful impact on the educational experience of our students and contribute to a welcoming and
inclusive school environment.
Primary duties: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Leading the Hmong department and collaborating with other staff members to integrate Hmong
culture into the school curriculum - Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping
students solve health, attitude, and learning problems; assess student academic and behavioral needs
by establishing and enforcing school rules and procedures. - Creating and implementing a comprehensive Hmong curriculum that aligns with state standards and
meets the needs of our diverse student population - Planning professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their cultural competence and
understanding of the Hmong community - Collaborating with community members and organizations to expand cultural resources and
opportunities for students - Assisting in the recruitment and retention of Hmong-speaking staff and students
- Monitoring student progress in Hmong language and culture classes and providing additional support
as needed - Organizing field trips and guest speaker events to further immerse students in Hmong cultural
experiences - Keeping abreast of current research and best practices in Hmong language education and
incorporating them into the curriculum - Providing coaching and mentorship to Hmong language teachers, including lesson planning,
instructional strategies, and classroom management techniques - Collaborating with teachers to develop professional development plans and growth opportunities
tailored to their individual needs and goals - Conducting regular classroom observations and providing constructive feedback to support the
ongoing professional development of Hmong language teachers - Analyzing data from Hmong language assessments to track student progress, identify areas for
improvement, and inform instructional decision-making - Developing data-informed strategies to address gaps in student understanding and enhance overall
learning outcomes in Hmong language classes - Collaborating with teachers and administrators to implement targeted interventions and support
services for students who may be struggling with Hmong language proficiency - Planning and coordinating events for Hmong New Year and Hmong Day celebrations
- Serving as a resource and advocate for Hmong students and families within the school community
- Participating in school-wide initiatives and committees to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Fill in as a substitute teacher as needed
Professional Accountabilities
- Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development
meetings and other professional activities. - Participates in various school events, staff meetings and extracurricular activities.
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
- Serve as a role model for promoting effective instruction and professionalism
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Hmong Studies, or related field
- Fluency in spoken and written Hmong and English
- Minnesota State Licensure in teaching in appropriate subject area
- Strong desire and commitment to working with diverse students and staff
- Ability and flexibility to interact effectively with students, parents, and other school staff, the
administration, and community members of diverse ethnic/racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. - Ability to collaborate with grade level teachers, paraprofessionals, and tutors regarding instructional
classroom activities - Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Have knowledge of best practices, instructional strategies, classroom management and behavior
management - Ability to plan and implement lesson plans base on school goals, as well as the objectives, and needs of
students. - Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations
- Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology, as appropriate.
- Knowledge of classroom management and organization
Working Environment
- Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment; school building is a multi-level
building that has an elevator and is accessible - Position requires extensive interaction with children of all ages
- Duties may occasionally be performed on field trips away from school
- Duties may occasionally be performed in outdoor environments, such as athletic fields or playgrounds
- Duties may occasionally be performed in varying weather conditions, such as hot or cold weather.
- Possible exposure to loud and noisy locations (e.g. loud classrooms or cafeterias; children speaking or
laughing loudly).
