Position Summary
The Elementary Physical Education Teacher will develop and implement a comprehensive physical
education curriculum that promotes physical fitness, motor skill development, sportsmanship, and lifelong
healthy habits. This position plays a crucial role in fostering students’ physical, social, and emotional growth
while supporting the school’s mission and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum

  • Design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans that promote active learning and
    physical literacy
  • Utilize relevant technology and innovative teaching methods to support and differentiate instruction
    for diverse learners
  • Implement goals, objectives, and standards aligned with state physical education frameworks and
    school expectations
  • Prepare the gymnasium and outdoor spaces for class activities, ensuring a safe and organized
    learning environment
  • Teach fundamental movement skills, sports techniques, fitness concepts, and cooperative games
    Assessment and Student Support
  • Evaluate student performance, skill development, and participation through ongoing assessment
    methods
  • Monitor student progress toward physical education standards and provide constructive feedback
  • Identify students’ physical, social, and emotional needs and collaborate with staff, counselors, and
    specialists to provide appropriate support
  • Adapt activities and instruction to accommodate students with varying abilities and learning needs
  • Establish and maintain behavioral standards that promote a safe, respectful, and functional learning
    environment
    Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicate regularly with parents and families through conferences, progress reports, and other
    means to discuss student development and program goals
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support whole-child development and school-wide
    initiatives
  • Participate in professional learning communities, staff meetings, and school events
  • Prepare required reports, documentation, and student records in a timely manner
    Classroom and Behavior Management
  • Enforce school rules, procedures, and safety protocols consistently and fairly
  • Maintain effective classroom management and discipline in accordance with school policies
  • Model and teach positive sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, and conflict resolution
  • Create an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and promotes belonging for all students
    Qualifications
    Required
  • Current Minnesota teaching license in Physical Education (K-12 or elementary level)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field
  • Knowledge of child development, motor skill progression, and age-appropriate physical activities
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to cultural responsiveness and equity in education
    Preferred
  • Previous teaching experience in elementary physical education
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Familiarity with Hmong culture and community
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Knowledge of adaptive physical education strategies
    Working Environment
  • Duties are primarily performed in gymnasium, classroom, and outdoor athletic environments
  • School building is a multi-level facility with elevator access and full accessibility accommodations
  • Position requires extensive interaction with elementary-aged children (Pre-K through 5th grade)
  • Regular physical activity including standing, walking, demonstrating movements, and lifting
    equipment (up to 50 lbs)
  • Occasional field trips and events may occur off-campus
  • Outdoor duties performed in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow)
  • Exposure to moderately loud environments (gymnasiums, playgrounds, active children)
  • Standard school hours with occasional evening or weekend events
