In Elementary Music we build foundational musical literacy by actively engaging students in singing, playing instruments like recorders and percussion, and exploring music through movement and dance. Using a “sound before symbol” approach, we introduce core concepts like rhythm, melody, tempo, and dynamics, along with basic notation. The curriculum, often drawing from methods like Kodály and Orff, is a multi-year spiral that progressively deepens students’ skills in areas like performance, composition, improvisation, and critical listening. Beyond technical skills, we connect music to culture and history, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
