Instrumental Music Director

This position will be for the 2024/2025 School Year

HOPE Community Academy is an accredited, public co-educational charter school comprised of primary, intermediate, middle, and high school levels. Responsibilities:

  • Provides learning experiences and teaches the course of study
  • Design future course flow and offerings Instructs students in instrumental music.
  • Prepares lesson plans and establishes course goals. Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student control required to achieve effective participation in all activities.
  • Selects music and supplies for courses. Demonstrates method and procedure to students.
  • Observes and evaluates students’ work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
  • Provides appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet school/district policies, goals, and objectives.
  • Accompanies students on field trips to concerts or performances or other types associated with musical performances.
  • May specialize in teaching one or more areas of instrumental music, such as guitar, drumming, music theory, performance, and marching band.
  • May direct planning and supervision of student contests and arranging of student performances.
  • Communicates with parents through a variety of means in addition to report card cycles.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive community performances such as parades, interest centers, concerts, etc.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or professional growth activities and university courses.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which s/he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Selects and requisitions instructional materials; maintains inventory records.
  • Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
  • Participates in faculty and/or district committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Must be able to manage music supplies, equipment, tools and classroom, budget, and storage spaces.
  • Must be able to do basic repairs of musical instruments.
  • Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things.
  • Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors.
  • Requires the ability to ready a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
  • Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc. using prescribed format.
  • Performs other related work as required

Professional Accountabilities:

  • Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
  • Participates in various school events, staff meetings and extracurricular activities.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
  • Serve as a role model for promoting effective instruction and professionalism

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minnesota State Licensure in teaching in appropriate subject area
  • Strong desire and commitment to working with diverse students and staff
  • Ability and flexibility to interact effectively with students, parents, and other school staff, the administration, and community members of diverse ethnic/racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Have knowledge of best practices, instructional strategies, classroom management and behavior management
  • Ability to plan and implement lesson plans base on school goals, as well as the objectives, and needs of students.
  • Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations
  • Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of classroom management and organization

Working Environment:

  • Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment; school building is a multi-level building that has an elevator and is accessible
  • Position requires extensive interaction with children of all ages
  • Duties may occasionally be performed on field trips away from school
  • Duties may occasionally be performed in outdoor environments, such as athletic fields or playgrounds
  • Duties may occasionally be performed in varying weather conditions, such as hot or cold weather.
  • Possible exposure to loud and noisy locations (e.g. loud classrooms or cafeterias; children speaking or laughing loudly).
